Employment Eligibility for Military Spouses
Fleet & Family Readiness Programs provide employment preference* for spouses of active duty military members of the U.S. Armed Forces applying for NAF positions in all employment categories at pay band NF3 and below.
Spouse preference eligibility begins 30 days before the military sponsor’s report date into the new duty location and ends when the military spouse has less than six months' time remaining in the area.
Preference-eligible spouses shall be placed on a selection list if among the “Best Qualified” candidates after a competitive screening process is completed.
Spouse preference is limited to positions in the same commuting area as that of the new duty station of the military sponsor who is relocating. Spouses may compete for positions outside the commuting area, but will not receive preference in such situations. Spousal preference may be used multiple times for flexible positions. Spousal preference is considered used when the spouse is placed in a regular full-time or regular part-time position.
*Military Spouse Preference Request form & PCS orders must accompany all applications to be eligible for spousal Preference.
